Book Review:

Baby Einstein Discover 100 first words is a super fun and engaging book for kids. I purchased this book for my daughter and she enjoys reading it. She is attracted to the real pictures and illustrations in the book. The book contains 10 different scenarios and for each scene there are 10 different words to learn from.

For example, in the beach scene, kids can enjoy looking at a panda building the sandcastle, a tiger eating an ice-cream and a dolphin jumping into the ocean. And in the classroom scene, the kids can see a zebra painting a rainbow, a giraffe drawing with a crayon, bird writing on the blackboard with a chalk and the kids can point to these new words. This book is very well structured and has content that not only creates interests and builds curiosity but also engages young minds.

Moreover, this book with its bright and bold illustrations and real life images of different scenes help kids understand what exactly they can find and do when they actually go to these different places. The kids learn to identify the objects and recognize the scene or place from the book. This increases their familiarity with the place. Familiarity breeds comfort. Thus our kids are comfortable in these 10 common places mentioned in the book and you’ll find them more vocal…happily chirping what they know and enjoy their visits and even look forward to visiting another place from the book.

For instance, in the garden scene, you have watering can, dirt, flowers and worms. Similarly, in the beach scene you can see ocean, boats, sandcastle, ice-cream stand, sand etc. So, when my daughter goes to these places, she knows how the garden or beach looks like and things she can find there or what different things and food to carry when we go for a picnic in the park. All these different scenes have helped in increasing her vocabulary and imagination.

This book also has tasks of finding specific things in each scene at the end. Your kids will enjoy pointing at those objects all day long! It is a good book for toddlers to learn new words.

My Recommendation:

Baby Einstein books encourages young minds to read and build curiosity in them and help them grow. I would definitely recommend buying this book as it creates environment for conversations and imagination for your kids and is a great vocabulary builder. Go get your copy today!!

These 3 animals initially compete with each other to see how many apples they can balance on their heads while they skip, walk on a tight rope and skate. Once they manage to balance 10 apples on their heads, they go on crazy adventure to save these apples from falling down.

Book Review:

This educational book Ten Apples Up on Top ! teaches kids all about numbers in a Dr. Suess signature style. The pictures are simple and self-explanatory. The book Ten Apples Up on Top teaches kids to have healthy competition and cherish friendship as well. My daughter loves the bonding between the 3 main characters- the lion, the tiger and the dog and how they run, jump and do all crazy things to save their apples from the bear family and birds. The lines of the content in this book rhyme, so it is fun to read them to your children. Moreover the images in this book correspond to the text. For example, when the dog says to the lion, “You can do three, I can do more. you have three but I have four”, we see the dog balancing 4 apples on his head and there are 3 apples on the lion’s head.

The storyline is interesting and keeps the children engaged. First, the three animal friends compete with each other to see how many apples they can balance on their head. Later, the bears and the birds chase them for their apples. Finally, the apples are shared among all the animals and they become friends. This a good book to make your kid understand the importance of sharing.

My favorite part in this book is when the other animals are chasing these 3 friends, they say to each other, “Come on come on… we cannot let them get them!!! It makes the whole scene so motivated and charged up. These encouraging words show how they help each other to save the apples on their head.

My Recommendation:

I use this book for three main reasons. Firstly to teach counting numbers, secondly the rhyming text, it sounds like a poem and children love to sing it and lastly to teach sharing among friends. I also use this book to identify animals, different colors and objects. It’s fun to read. I would definitely recommend this book in your child’s library. Go grab your copy..!

Alphabets are basic introduction to any language. To begin with basics, we need to start with ABCs of those things. Toddler age is perfect as it is about time to introduce our children to nature and its bountiful gifts. Fruits, vegetables, birds, bugs, flowers and trees are integral part of this natural world and hence Mrs. Peanuckle’s 6 series alphabet books are what you should reach for.

Mrs. Peanuckle introduces ABCs to young readers with variety of vegetables names beginning from the alphabets. A for Asparagus to Z for Zucchini, this book has amazing graphic illustrations from tiny faces to tiny moustaches on the veggies, surely making your young ones excited about vegetables. The informative text about the vegetables is quite astonishing. This book reading will add new words to your kid’s vocabulary and encourage sentence formation as well. While reading, I was surprised to know that Dandelion leaves are edible and N for Nasturtium is a flower that you can eat too! My little one enjoys reading Mrs. Peanuckle’s Vegetable Alphabet book and while eating her veggies she likes to call out loud the names of the vegetables to me.

Though Mrs. Peanuckle’s Vegetable Alphabet book has bright and bold illustrations, I think that some of the informative text is too long for the little ones. Few pages do not have vegetable names but related information such as Q for Queen Bee to spread pollens, U for Underground where many things grow and V for Vegetables in general. This book has funny elements also for example, E for Eggplant which is not really an egg! and M for Mushroom-this fungi counts as a vegetable especially when it is on Pizza! Kids will really appreciate this humor. Although not a simplified version, Mrs. Peanuckle’s Vegetable Alphabet book is definitely the better one from memorizing point of view.

My Recommendation:

You can buy Mrs. Peanuckle’s Vegetable Alphabet book for parallel learning of ABCs and vegetables. I used this book to introduce my daughter to these wonderful veggies and we learn our ABCs in traditional way with A for Apple and B for Ball so that it is less confusing for her.

Book Review:

I got this book for my daughter when she was 10 months old and I started training her for our bedtime routine. She loves peekaboo and we read it every night before bed. The book contains illustrations and photographs of children from different age groups and gender on the left side and peekaboo flaps on the right. The fascinating part is that the silky flaps on the right display an enlarged image of the items with which the children play. For example, on the first page, a girl is shown playing with a wooden clock with a question at the bottom where is the long eared rabbit, is he behind the clock? and when one opens the flap with enlarged image of the clock, it reveals a picture of a rabbit with satin bow to touch and feel.

However out of 5 peekaboo flaps, only 3 pictures: rabbit with satin bow, doll with braided hair and cuddly pig with soft fur has touch and feel elements. After reading couple of times, my daughter knows and she places her hand directly on these touch and feel areas whereas in the remaining 2 pictures of striped tiger and soft blanket she curiously feel these pages and knows the difference in the texture.

The bedtime routine to sleep at 7 PM suggested in the book is highly ambitious yet achievable. The flaps being delicate can easily tear off. We had almost all the flaps taped within a week of the book’s arrival. Having said that, the book is simple, cute and has become our favorite bedtime read. I enjoy watching my daughter going through each flaps and whispering to me Shhh.. Dnt wake them up. They are sleeping!!

My Recommendation:

This book is colorful, tough and delivers a good night message through cute little bedtime routine. You will enjoy reading this together with your child and see his or her smiling face when you say Peekaboo!!!! Children also learn to play the popular game of peekaboo. We sit with this book to learn to identify and recite the numbers on the clock. I recommend having this book. You can also buy other books from the same DK publishing company such as Playtime Peekaboo or Farm Peekaboo. All are a pleasure to read.

 

Welcome to BabyBooksBlurb

Hello Everyone ! This is my first blog and my opening post…

Wish you all a very Happy New Year! Let us all welcome this year 2021 with new hope, new beginnings and a fresh start. Last year, the Covid-19 pandemic gripped the world, paused our lives and forced us to reset our lifestyles. Schools were shut, offices were closed, restaurants put up the shutters and many people are still working from home and taking care of their family. The precautionary measures of this pandemic ensured that we got time to spend with our family. I especially cherish the time I’ve got in last ten months with my 20 months old daughter who would be otherwise in a day care facility while I crunched  ideas in my office; leaving us with crammed weekends where I would plan many activities together to spend time as a family. Every cloud has a silver lining and the declared lockdown proved to be a blessing in disguise as I could be with my daughter in her baby years.

Like many of you, I too tried to keep my toddler busy and entertained by playing lot of indoor games such as hide & seek, flash cards, word games, puzzles, building blocks, singing nursery rhymes and reading books. We have bonded so well. She tries to imitate how I read my magazines. She picks up her books, starts flipping the pages and looks at the pictures. I observed that she makes faces and blabbers something, acts as if she is reading them. I knew then my little pumpkin loves reading books and enjoys them. These books and magazines were her window to the world outside and she readily spent ample time at this window gazing out at the world. These books have acted as catalyst in enhancing our bond and they keep my sweetheart happy, busy and curious!

It dawned upon me it is time to start nurturing my daughter’s interest so I ordered many books for her online and read to her every day. Since then it is our ritual now to read at least twice a day or at all the times when she comes to me with book in her hand. Of all the books I ordered, few have become her favorite and few I realized are not interesting for a toddler. And this inspired me to share my experience and review these books to make it easy for parents to decide which book to buy for their little munchkin!!

I read many articles on how to write a blog, what to write, how to find your niche as there is too much information online; making it very difficult to decide on something interesting. This book is about Mr. Brown, who wears a neck tie, big creased hat and has a moustache. He not only gives thorough attention to the sound but also has very apt expression on his face to the sound he makes. This book has vibrant colored pages and challenges the reader to try making the sounds themselves.

Book Review:

This is an absolutely amazing book for kids to learn different sounds that animals and in-animate objects make. This book is a perfect pre-step for children who have begun speaking in syllables. The sounds in the book tickle them and their brain as well by helping them to remember and eventually recognize the animals, birds or things practically in our world. The wonder in the eyes when reading the book, making the sounds and the happiness on their faces and glee in their voice when they really recognize these animals on their own will create memorable experiences for you! My daughter enjoys making different noises and points at those words to me. She loves making the sound of MOO for Cow, Tick Tock Tick for a Clock and Dipple Dipple Dopp Dopp for Rain!  Mr. Brown has become my daughter’s marvelous character who can do these amazing things. I personally use this book more than just to make these different noises. I teach her to identify animals, different colors, objects and letters. We read this book daily.

My Recommendation:

Get this book for your toddler now! For ages 0 to 3 you need to read it together and there’s lot of fun doing that. This book helps to enhance your child’s creativity and also by making such noises they learn to roll their tongue and this helps in their speech as well. I would definitely recommend having this book in your child’s library.
